LOCAL BAND “JACOB” HAS BEEN BURNING UP THE STAGE AT THE OC FAIRGROUNDS
The Trio is set to play at Saturday, August 11th’s Law Enforcement Appreciation Night at Orange County Fair Speedway
JaCoB The Band, a Warwick area trio of young musicians made their festival stage debut this summer at The New Orange County Fair Festival Stage, opening for acts like Manchester Orchestra and AJR. For band members Jake, Conor and Brooke, it was an exciting opportunity to not only meet, but play with musicians who have influenced them.
On playing with such high profile acts, bassist Conor says “Being able to play at the concerts at The Orange County Fair and playing with bands like Manchester Orchestra, Badflower and AJR was a great experience for us. Getting to talk to the bands and play on a stage with a sound system like that one really helped us learn a lot more about our sound and about our music.”
The band’s unique name is a clever portmanteau of the three members first names, “Ja” for drummer Jake, “Co” for bassist Conor and “B” for guitarist and lead singer, Brooke. Influenced by the alternative rock bands of their youth, JaCoB has a familiar but wholly original sound. In their live shows, they perform a number of eclectic covers sprinkled in with their own original music, giving us some insight into their influences.
In their cover of “Valerie” a song popularized by Amy Winehouse, the ethereal vocals of lead singer Brooke are somehow both comforting and haunting, a quality shared with the late Winehouse.
Not trying to shy away from their DIY aesthetic, their debut EP is simply titled “Jake’s Basement” named for where it was recorded. Featuring 3 original songs: Overboard, Perfect Choice and Troubled Times, the EP is currently available for streaming on Spotify and for purchase on iTunes. A full length album is also in the works.
